There are rumors that Levski Sofia is negotiating with the Russian gas giant Gasprom about a new sponsorship contract. The chief executive of the club, Konstantin Bazhdekov, said that this was not true and that the negotiations are only for an advertisement contract. When I came across this piece of information, I could not help hoping that a Bulgarian team will finally get powerful financial support. If this happens, Levski will have the chance to compete with the strongest European teams and will finally restore the diminished glory of Bulgarian football. I hope that instead of buying new foreign footballers who cost a lot Levski will invest this money in their youth academy. There are many kids and youths that are eager to play football and only need the right guidance to develop their skills. If Levski uses this resource, they will really become a club of international importance. As cynical as it may sound, it is money that make the real difference in today's football. Levski's chance of getting a strong financial support by Gazprom seems small, but this should not discourage their fans from dreaming about it.
