The Champions League anthem

The anthem of the Champions league was written by George Frederic Handel. His song was called "Zadok the Priest". It was adapted by Tony Britten. It contains the three official languages of UEFA: French, English and German.

The official text :

Ce sont les meilleure equipes
Es sind sie allerbesten mannschaften
The main event
Die meister
Die besten
Les grande equips
The champions!
Une grande reunion
Eine grosse sportliche veranstaltung
The main event
Ils sont les meilleurs
Sie sind die besten
These are the champions
Die Meister
Die Besten
Les grandes equipes
The champions!

The text translated in English:
Ce sont les meilleures équipes
Those are the best teams
Sie sind die allerbesten Mannschaften
They are the very best teams
The main event

Chorus:

Die Meister
The Champions
Die Besten
The best
Les Grandes Équipes
The big teams
The Champions

Une grande réunion
A big event
Eine große sportliche Veranstaltung
A big sports event
The main event

Ils sont les meilleurs
They are the best
Sie sind die Besten
They are the best
These are the champions

Chorus: (repeat x2)

English football clubs

This image represents all of the soccer clubs from the United Kingdom. The modern soccer was first codified in 1863 in London. In fact it comes back to the Medieval times and the evidence for this is written in 1170 from William Fitzstephen. The terms for the sport come from the 16th century. The Football Association was formed during 1867. The first professional league in the world was established in 1888 by the manager of Aston Villa. In a research made in 2006 there was found out that there are about 40 000 clubs in The Football Association. Brazil is behind them with about 29 000 clubs. It can't be argued that England is the country with the most soccer clubs in the world.

The Premier league was formed in 1992. In this league play the best soccer teams. In it play 20 the best 20 teams from the country. The Premier League also took the place of the Football league which is the oldest one. Now it is the second one and it consists of 72 clubs. There are 3 divisions - the Championship, League One and League Two. Each one consists of 24 soccer clubs.

The Premier league consists of the best and most popular clubs. Now Manchester United and Chelsea are competing for the first place. Arsenal and Liverpool. Right now the first 8 clubs playing in the Premier league have the following points

  1. Chelsea 36
  2. Manchester United 34
  3. Arsenal 28
  4. Tottenham Hotspur 27
  5. Aston Villa 26
  6. Manchester City 25
  7. Liverpool 24
  8. Fulham 22

Olympiakos - Arsenal

The game will be played on 09.12.2009 in 21:45 local time. It will be played in Greece where Olympiakos are the hosts. This is the last game of the group phase in group H in the Champions League. The Gunners won't pay too much attention on this game, because they've already classified for the next stage of the league. However, the Greek team needs to win this game, because the difference between them and the team after them is only three points. Unfortunately the star of Olympiakos Kristian Ladesma won't take part this game. Arsene Wenger will rely on the young members of the team. The prognose is 1

Arsenal - Chelsea

The rivalry between this two teams began in 1907 when for the first time 2 teams from London played each other in the First Division. The game on 29.11.2009 had fished with a victory for the leader of the First Division. The result was 0:3 and Drogba was accurate for 2 of the goals. The other goal was scored by Thomas Vermaelen in the 44th minute of the match. Chelsea won on the Emirates Stadium and completely controlled the ball. The next match between Chelsea and the Gunners will be on 06.02.2009. Arsene Wenger will have to make some changes, but they have plenty of time for then. Arsenal is currently with 25 points, which is 11 after the leader Chelsea and 1 after Tottenham, which is on the third place.

Results from the past 2 days of the Champions league

Arsenal 4-1 AZ Alkmaar

"One of the best Arsenal performances I've seen, champagne football. It's a good
time to be a gooner."

The Arshavin Codex

In this match Fabregas scored 2 goals: one in the 25th minute and one in the 52nd minute. The English team won this match against the Dutch without the efforts they've put in the previous one. The previous match which was played in Netherlands finished 1:1.

Dynamo Kiev 1-2 Inter Milan

Fiorentina 5-2 Debrecen

Fiorentina won as it was expected. They scored many goals, but they've also let 2 goals to get into their door. The Hungarian team which won against the Bulgarian team Levski will have to do a lot more efforts if they want to go further in the Champions League

Lyon 1-1 Liverpool

This was absolutely unpredictable. The final score was made during the last 10 minutes. The first goal was made by Liverpool, but several minutes before the end Lyon made the result X

Rubin Kazan 0-0 Barcelona

This match was played during absolutely bad conditions. The temperature was about -5 grad Celsius. The Russian team has made a very good start. It is in the Russian top since very soon, but it makes derbies against the best teams. I think that in several years they will have the real opportunity to win the Champions League.

Sevilla 1-1 VfB Stuttgart

Standard Liege 2-0 Olympiakos

Unirea Urziceni 1-1 Rangers

AC Milan 1-1 Real Madrid

Apoel Nicosia 0-1 FC Porto

Atletico Madrid 2-2 Chelsea

Bayern Munchen 0-2 Bordeaux

Bayern Munchen made a good game, but they lost this match against the leader of group A

Besiktas 0-3 Wolfsburg

Maccabi Haifa 0-1 Juventus

Man Utd 3-3 CSKA Moscow

This match was totally unpredictable. CSKA Moscow played very good, but the chances were against them. CSKA was leading with 2 goals, but the English team made several breaks through the Russian defense. In the final minutes when everyone thought that CSKA is the winner, Man Utd scored a third goal and with a lot of luck they took 1 point from this match.

Marseille 6-1 FC Zurich

Bulgaria - Georgia

After the last significant match of the Bulgarian National soccer team, Bulgaria met Georgia in Sofia on "Vasil Levski" stadium. The match was played yesterday - 14.10.2009 and started in 21:00. Although none of the team needed a victory, both of them played at their maximum. Last time when they met in Georgia the result was 0:0 and the game wasn't very dynamic, but this time the teams played more beautiful soccer and the result showed it.

The Bulgarian team was leading with 6-1 before the half-time. Berbatov was precise for the first goal in the 6th minute of the match. The doorkeeper had no chance against Martin Petrov who scored the second goal for the Bulgarians in the 14th minute. 9 minutes after him the player of Manchester United Berbatov made the result 3:0. 10 minutes after him Angelov scored the fourth goal. When it seemed the the Georgians have given up Dvalishvili scored the firs goal for Georgia. During the 41st minute Berbatov shot the Georgian doorkeeper once more and the result happened to be 5:1. 2 minutes before the half-time Martin Petrov scored again one goal and made the result 6:1. After a penalty Levan Kobiashvili scored for the final result - Bulgaria 6:2 Georgia.

The result was as it was expected - Bulgaria won this game although it didn't qualify for the World Championship in South Africa in 2010. The coach Stanimir Stoilov said that the team will prepare better for the European Championship.

Cyprus - Bulgaria

Bulgaria has last chance to qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa. The match from Group 8 will be played in Cyprus and the team will have the support of its fans. The match will be played tomorrow (10.10.2009) and will start in 20:00 Bulgarian time on Antonis Papadopolus stadium in Larnaka. It will be hard time for the Bulgarian team, because it needs only victories in its next two matches. The chances for Bulgaria to qualify are little, but Cyprus has no chances. The Bulgarians hope that Ireland will lose the game with Italia and after that with Montenegro. Tomorrow will be a hard day and everyone hopes for a miracle.
