The FA Cup semi-final draw means the Reds will almost certainly have to finish fifth in the Barclays Premier League or win the Europa League to guarantee continental football next term.
But, as Liverpool prepare to face Braga tonight, Dalglish said: "European football and this football club are synonymous. We'd love that to continue.
"Other people will look at the danger of being in the Europa League and the strength of the teams they have played.
"Everyone would agree that there are a lot of clubs who have played weakened sides in the Europa League; they qualify through their league position to get there or through success in the cup and then they don't put their strongest team out.
"Maybe Europe is more important to some clubs than it is to others. Maybe if you have a bigger squad of players, you can handle it better.
"To be successful in Europe and domestically, you need a big squad of players. If we sit down and analyse the squad of players we have, you'd say for quality we would be reasonably happy but numerically we'd need more."
