MMA of the Past

You think MMA is something completely new and original? You are wrong! Although MMA is often compared to Wresling the techniques are actually very different. However there is (or was) a sport just like MMA, but almost 3000 years ago. It was called Pankration, and began in Ancient Greece as an olympic games' sport. Soon after its creation, Pankration, became one of the most spectacular sports present in the Olympic games. The rules of Pankration were were simple - fight until your enemy surrenders (sometimes this lead to death, where officially the victor becomes the alive one). Only two regulations concerning the fight were presents - no bitting and no eye gouging (similarly to the first UFC rules). The players of course could use only their bodies as a weapon, although there are myths and legends of special events, tournaments for Pankratiasts, where other weapons were present as well. Some belive this sport lead to the creation of the famous gladiator sports. Anyhow the stunning similarity of these ancient sports and modern-time MMA reveal the eternal hunger for blood of the crowd.
