Roger Federer – The Tennis Genius


Roger Federer was born in Switzerland in 1981. When he was 14 he was involved in several tennis tournaments a year. This led to his success when at the same age Roger Federer became the national junior champion in Switzerland and because of his successes he was chosen to train at the Swiss National Tennis Centre. Roger’s first sports hero was Boris Becker, the young German who won Wimbledon in 1985. Right now Federer is one of the world’s best players and he is ranked 3rd in the world. The 2000 season brought Roger his first two ATP finals appearances. In 2002 he became the second player to win three out of four Grand Slam singles tournaments. Federer repeated this achievement in 2006 and became the first tennis players to become winner in at least ten singles championships for three consecutive years. 2004 was Federer’s best year. During that year he won his first Australia Open title. In the same world he was ranked as 2nd in the world. At the beginning of next year (2005) he was ranked number 1 in the world and in the same year he won for third year the Wimbledon singles title and the US Open. Federer is also involved in charity and in 2003 he established the Roger Federer Foundation, whish is supposed to help disadvantaged children in South Africa. In 2006, because of his involvement in charity, Roger Federer was elected an Ambassador of Goodwill to UNICEF.
